American style saddle availability
In Tanzania we ride english style and have english saddles and tack. This obviously means that we post to the trot. Unfortunately we do not have any western saddles at the moment.
In Chile and Argentina we ride on local saddles that are lighter and more comfortable than western saddles while the riding style is similar to western.

Kilimanjaro ride
Our original ride! This is an 8 night itinerary with 7 days riding between Mt. Meru to the south, Lake Natron Game Controlled area to the West, Mt. Kilimanjaro to the East and the Kenya border and Amboseli National Park to the North. The ride follows a circuit starting and ending at Uto Farm, our base. We ride about 3 hours during the morning, break for lunch and siesta during the heat of the day, and then ride another 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon. Distance covered averages 35 to 50 km per day depending on the speed of the group. Each evening when you arrive at camp there is a large campfire ready to go and your tents are all set up with your gear inside; all you have to do is tie up your horse on our picket line and make sure your mount gets a bucket of water.
LADE Argentine internal airline
In addition to Aerolineas, Austral and Lan Argentina, LADE (lineas aereas del estado) also fly to destinations like Ushuaia and Rio Gallegos inside Argentina from Buenos Aires. Their fares are much lower than the other operators because this is the public arm of the Argentine Air force and most planes are propeller driven and the routes in-direct. Their website can be accessed at
www.lade.com.ar Minimum numbers
Rides can be confirmed for 4-5 participants in total depending slightly on the location in question.
Novice Riders
Several of our riding holidays are suitable for novice riders. These are classified as level A in the ride headings. However, you ought still to be fit and to have a good sense of balance.
Places to stay in Buenos Aires
If you are staying in Buenos Aires for a week or more, an interesting option instead of staying at one of the many hotels is to rent a flat. This works out much cheaper on a daily basis, especially on a per person basis. One of the best services is that provided by
www.bytargentina.com who offer fully furnished apartments all over town.

Visas for Chile
There are no visa requirements for entry to Chile. American citizens, Canadian nationals and others from the NAFTA area are required to pay a "reciprocal entry fee". $100 for US Citizens. I believe it is $50 for the others. Europeans do not pay this fee.
What is a Quarteron?
This is a popular cross of the Criollo mare with a Criollo/Perceron cross stallion. The resulting animal is taller and heavier than the classic Criollo horse. Surprisingly it is also just as agile and nimble of foot while having greater power and stamina. My favourite horse - Jan.

Will the horses be fit and well looked after ?
We organise our own rides to ensure that the horses are up to the work required, that they are well fed, groomed and cared for. There are many riding locations that we scouted which did not make it into our website and we would not offer a ride if we thought the horses were not treated with respect. One of the key benefits you get when booking with Equestrian Safaris is the knowledge that you will be riding good quality horses, whether this is in Tanzania or in South America.
